Simone Sims Longo

Simone Sims Longo is an artist working with sound and new media. His work ranges from composition for electronic music fixed on a medium, to sound design and sound installations. As a composer, he is interested in the creation and manipulation of sound in the digital domain, focusing on the elaboration of timbre in a continuous search for balance between sound synthesis and sampled sound. In his works he often uses a multi-iteration of samples, following the phase shift and the complexities of polyrhythmic variations within sound textures. Through multi-channel diffusion he explores space and exploits the interaction of sound with architectural elements. Longo is fascinated by natural reverberation and the qualities of sound diffusion obtained through different materials. He focuses his live activity on the relationship between sound and image or sound and light, creating performances that explore the perception of audio-visual phenomena. He has performed his compositions at various festivals and institutes dedicated to new media including: Spektrum art science community in Berlin, ZKM in Karlsruhe, EAST2015 festival at Le Magasin in Grenoble, RE-SOUND festival in Padua, MAtera INtermedia festival, Niu espai artìstic in Barcelona, AU Bioskop in Vienna, IFFR Sound/vision at Worm in Rotterdam, Metronome in Nottingham for UKYA City Takeover, Macro Asilo Museo d’Arte Contemporanea in Rome, Cinema Massimo in Turin, ArteScienza Festival in Rome.
